"A large income is the best recipe for happiness I ever heard of." Or is it...

May 3, 2018

Dear Jane,

A flowery image I
took this very morning!
I write to you as we begin the month of May with both exceedingly hot weather and the most beautiful flower blossoms. In truth, I prefer the latter without the prior, but seeing as we saw two snow showers in the beginning of April, one must not be too particular! It seems that summer is fast approaching whether or not we are ready for it, Jane. Happily, I have a great many things to look forward to (though the hot weather is not one of them). I fear that it will sound as if I am bragging about my upcoming adventures but please know that this is not my intention; I merely wish to keep you informed...and cannot think of anything else to write about at present. Is this not a writer's greatest obstacle?

My upcoming schedule (pronounced SHED-YOOL) is as follows:

--------------------------------------

May
I couldn't resist taking a
 bookish photo!

I, along with my sister and two friends, will be seeing 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' on the Broadway later this month! I anticipate it being a most magical and enjoyable theatrical production. As you know, I have been an adoring fan of Harry Potter for over fifteen years, so I am quite excited for this experience. In truth, my purse is rather lighter after my ticket purchase, but to this I say: "YOLO," Jane. (YOLO meaning, "You Only Live Once." What will these clever youths think of next?)

June

I will once again journey to our Nation's Capital, Washington DC, to visit my dear sister, Rachael! Whilst there, I am committed to visiting a most charming establishment called, Capitol Hill Books. It has long been on my list of things to do but I have not yet had the pleasure of a visit. I also look forward to visiting with my beloved sister, of course.

July

July will mark my darling nephew's first birthday so we will be celebrating with a joyous party at the abode of my beautiful, eldest sister, Regina and her husband, Adam. Oh, how time flies when one is an Aunt! I know you are no stranger to this role, Jane, as you had a great many nieces and nephews (all of whom adored you).

I daresay that July will be a busy month for there is another exciting event on the horizon. My sisters and I will be journeying to the land of New Jersey in order to attend the concert of none other than the talented pop-princess, Miss Taylor Swift! And to this I ask, ARE YOU READY FOR IT? But also, LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO. Apologies for my outburst, Jane. Now, I fear this is not the type of concert you are familiar with (Italian arias and pianofortes will not be present at this musical event), but I do believe that if properly introduced to her style you would truly enjoy yourself.

August

I am most excited for the arrival of August, Jane, for I have a very exciting adventure planned. That being said, however, the aforementioned adventure will require it's own letter of explanation so I won't share details just now...but I will give you a hint using one of your own quotations: "If adventures will not befall a young lady in her own village, she must seek them abroad."

SHED-YOOL complete. For now.
-----------------------------------

Now, although I am eagerly awaiting the above upcoming events, I must reconcile myself with the fact that economies must be taken to offset the accompanying expenses. Ah, the joys of adulthood! You were most wise when you wrote, "A large income is the best recipe for happiness I ever heard of." You see, I am the first to admit that this will be a very *ahem* expensive summer, but one must live life to the fullest, mustn't one?  And in my defense, money comes and goes but memories last forever! So perhaps a large income isn't the BEST recipe for happiness...perhaps experience is? A single girl in possession of no fortune can only hope.

Until next time, Jane...

Yours Faithfully,

Amanda
